Relaxing at Leeuwenhof Country Lodge and Spa in the Waterberg Mountains
Situated in a lush garden with enormous ancient trees and an abundance of birdlife in the Waterberg Mountains in the Limpopo Province is the romantic Leeuwenhof Country Lodge and Spa - offering a relaxation of mind, body and soul.

Recently my partner and I enjoyed an overnight stay at this magnificent 5-star establishment. Home made biscuits, freshly cut flowers and a bowl with a selection of fruit added an extra touch to our luxury prestige bedroom with fireplace. Stylishly decorated with abundant space, our suite was a wonderful retreat - especially with its open fireplace and electric blankets to keep the cold chill of the night at bay. Some of the rooms have fireplaces and even your own private jacuzzi.

Arriving on a cold wintry day, we took full advantage of their wonderful spa facilities - sauna, spa bath, Turkish bath and flotation pool which are all offered free of charge to paying guests - however, all body and facial treatments are extra. Away from the Jo'burg traffic and tension this was indeed a wonderful way to de-stress our bodies and mind. The lodge also offers excellent two-to-three day spa packages, which includes lunch in their garden each day and a selection of different treatments. I, for one, could not think of a better place to enjoy one of these packages, their gardens are exquisite and the scenery is absolutely superb. They also offer packages for couples - which makes a romantic weekend all the more tempting!

The lodge caters for dinner, bed and breakfast and dinner surpassed all our expectations. Dinner in the splendid dining room is a leisurely affair. A fusion of country and contemporary cuisine is offered, with many of the fresh produce coming from the estate. Our table was situated in front of a roaring fireplace and we were highly impressed with the menu on offer - three choices of a four-course dinner awaited us!

We were quite happy to stay put at the lodge and take in the beauty of the surroundings and were thus quite content with the sunset drive in the evening to view the small selection of game on the estate. There are, however, day excursions to view the Big Five and the Cheetah and Wild dog Conservancy. Arrangements can also be made for golf and bowls in the nearby vicinity. Situated 30km from the lodge is a crocodile farm and elephant back rides are available some 60km away.

Leeuwenhof Country Lodge and Spa also offers two fabulous luxury tents, which are situated on the riverbank eacg with their own Jacuzzis. Decked out in absolute luxury with bathroom and lounge with the most superb deck - this is definitely a must for those who are keen on total privacry. Breakfast and dinner are at the main lodge, which is a pleasant stroll from the riverbank. Staying in one of these luxury tents is also a paradise for keen birdwatchers.

Only two hours from Gauteng, Leeuwenhof Country Lodge and Spa is a very attractive getaway - offering quite a number of activities - or for those needing to replenish their energies, just parking off with a good book in the tranquil gardens and getting back in touch with nature!
