"Wilderness is not just a place, but a pattern of soul where every tree, every bird and every beast is a soul maker'", is the message that is written on the welcome note presented to guests at Jackalberry Lodge. Without a doubt, this message has meaning when it comes to embracing what this intimate game lodge has to offer.

With the majestic northern range of the Drakensberg Mountains providing a spectacular background, Jackalberry Lodge is one of the many private game lodges situated in the Thornybush Game Reserve, in the Limpopo Province.
I loved our Bush Chalet from the moment I entered it. Everything blended so well and there was a harmonious balance of earthiness combined with understated luxury. The bathroom was absolutely stunning. It had a bathtub for two, from which one had the most fantastic views overlooking the bush and Drakensberg Mountains in the distance. It also had indoor and outdoor showers.
Dining in the boma at Jackalberry Lodge is a warm an intimate affair that caters for a maximum of 16 guests. The food, a mixture of fusion cuisine with a game option, is superb. There is also a very good selection of wines. The friendly staff and excellent service made dining a memorable event.
Game viewing at dusk is always a highlight for me. There is very little that beats our African sunset and what better way to get the maximum pleasure from it than by enjoying sundowners in the bush - surrounded by the calls of nature. On my visits to many private game lodges, I have always marvelled at the experienced and well selected game rangers that each lodge has managed to secure. Although I realise that being able to radio and inform other rangers of the animals that have been spotted is sometimes necessary so that guests have the opportunity of seeing more animals, I still find nothing more disturbing than the crackling sound of the two-way radios in the quietness of the bush. I am pleased to say that I was not disappointed with the etiquette of the game ranger at Jackalberry Lodge. I don't know how, but he managed to perform his task without too much radio interference on the game drives.
The lodge is made up of three Classic chalets; two Bush Chalets; one Family Chalet and one Suite. However, what appealed to me most was that Jackalberry Lodge is affordable for South Africans to visit!.
The lodge has 74 rooms, standard, deluxe, family and suites - all equipped with all the mod cons and is not only ideal for a family outing, but also for conferences, weddings or any other special occasion.
A very nice affordable destination!
