Lion Sands' guests were busy enjoying their high tea, before their afternoon game drive, when Lion Sands Field Ranger, Jacqui Glover, noticed a Black Rhino coming down to the Sabie River for a drink of water, right in front of Lion Sands River Lodge. Guests were able to view one of South Africa's more rare animals and get some amazing footage of this Black Rhino cow.

Lion Sands offers 18 luxurious thatched bedrooms with en-suite bathroom, outdoor & inside shower. The bedroom area is air-conditioned with an overhead fan. All rooms have mini-bar & telephone access. The rooms are linked to all areas by raised wooden walkways. The interior is a tranquil purple and cream haven, cool in the summer, cosy in the winter. The bathroom, with its tranquil look and pebble-inlaid floors complements the bushveld well. Each bedroom has its own deck with a view of the river.

The swimming pool is arguably the best game viewing spot in the summer months. With an uninterrupted view of the river and the rising bush beyond it is not uncommon to spot an elephant or giraffe while doing backstroke.
